Title: Linux – The Operating System of Freedom Abstract: Respecting freedom is a fundamental need and value in a healthy society. This simple idea (users' freedom) lead to the development of the Linux operating system around 30 years ago, with numerous far-reaching consequences including resource-efficiency, sustainability, transparency, security, privacy, and versatility. The aim of this mini-course is to help you get started with Linux. After a quick historical overview, we will touch upon some Linux variants (so-called distributions), hints on installation and applications for common tasks.
